The Portuguese Football Federation were lashed to Chelsea for the announcement during Euro 2008 that Luiz Felipe Scolari had accepted an offer to coach the Premier League.
FPF president Gilberto Madail, addressed the media on Friday morning following his team for the Eradication of Championship of Europe at the hands of Germany and believes that the timing of the announcement of imminent departure Scolari had a destabilizing effect.
"It was not the best time for us to Chelsea to announce the appointment of Scolari," said Madail.
"I know Scolari has nothing to do with it and I was surprised, not by appointment - because Scolari is a great coach - but the timing.
"I wish Chelsea would be consulted before us so that we could have chosen a better time."
Madail acknowledged that Scolari's departure was inevitable.
"I knew that when we entered the tournament Scolari leaving," he said.
"We respected their wishes. His cycle with Portugal had ended because he wanted a new experience with a club.
"There was nothing we could do. It was a financial matter and we could not match the offer Chelsea."
The Portugal have also had to cope with the distraction of Cristiano Ronaldo Club situation.
The 23-year-old star is under contract to Manchester United, Real Madrid, but are hell-bent on bringing him to the Bernabeu for the next campaign.
Ronaldo admitted after the 3-2 defeat he will discuss his future with United in the coming days.
"I do not know what's happening in the spirit of Ronaldo and I do not think this contract problems likely to affect a player," said Madail.
"It is normal for players to tackle these issues. I do not think it interferes and I do not see any problem with Ronaldo."
If you leave the competition quarter-final stage was a huge disappointment for Portugal, which was one of the biggest teams in the event.
They showed a lot of flair, but ultimately was blocked against a determined Germany.
"I was very disappointed by the game yesterday," said Madail.
"Everybody saw Portugal is a strong team.
"There is no way our disposal is fair, but the result is fair in the night, Germany won 3-2 and we made mistakes and were made to pay.
"Good luck for Germany, but the best of luck in Spain".
Portugal will now have the difficult task of finding a replacement for Scolari.
The Brazil led to the final of Euro 2004 and fourth place in the World Cup in Germany two years ago.
Portugal will now turn their attention qualification for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and will announce early next month, which will succeed Scolari.
Madail said: "What some people want it or not, he (Scolari) has left a mark in Portuguese football.
"He is a coach who made a huge impact and will remain in the history of Portugal. But life goes on.
"(The new coach) will have to speak Portuguese but not necessarily be Portuguese.
"It must have the ambition and be a winner. It must be someone who respect the players. "

Slaven Bilic side thrive on the pressure against Turkey
Croatia coach Slaven Bilic expects his side to thrive on the pressure against Turkey on Friday evening that the Balkan countries seek to reach the semi-finals of the Championships in Europe for the first time.

"Not only us, but I think all the teams, including Turkey, have passed the stage of negative pressure. I think it's a great situation for us. "
Croatia were very impressive in their progress through winners of Group B by beating Austria, Germany and Poland in their three matches.
Bilic is proud of his side shows the two in the final and during qualification, but he is not ready for the adventure to end any time.

At 39 years, Bilic is the youngest coach at Euro 2008, but despite only in charge of Croatia since 2006, the former Everton and West Ham defender does not believe his lack of experience will be a major problem for him.
"I said before the tournament that experience is certainly useful, I would have been four or five major tournaments before this one, but I do not think I'm handicapped in relation to other coaches, even if some of them have been champions before, "he added.

Basle battle of Netherlands and Russia
VIENNA, June 20 - Netherlands lit the group stages but Russia are not far behind with their class ahead of Sweden and the two teams now face a battle in Basle on Saturday to decide who reached the semi-finals of Euro 2008.
A week ago the Netherlands-odds examined in advance for the last four, but if they remain favourites, Russia sparkling 2-0 victory over Sweden at Innsbruck on Wednesday altered the balance.
Although the Netherlands has Ruud van Nistelrooy in attack, Russia may appeal to the Roman Pavlyuchenko revitalized.
Wesley Sneijder is also against the competence Andrei Arshavin in the middle of the field while on the wing of the Netherlands have Arjen Robben and Russia with the versatile midfielder Konstantin Zyryanov.
But the Dutch coach Marco van Basten is keen to learn the lessons of Spain 4-1 rout of Russia at the beginning of the tournament.
"We must see what the Spanish did to them and take our lessons from this," he said.
Many Dutch first choice players have had a week to rest and prepare after Van Basten reserves most often used in the last group match against Romania.
It is likely to start with the team that came out of the locker room for the second half of the 4-1 romp la France last Friday, starting with Robben and Orlando Engelaar surrender to the judiciary.
Robben, who missed the opening match against Italy by injuries, did well after coming to Engelaar against Les Bleus and was a starter for Romania.
However, if the attacker Robben talents are unquestionable and Dirk Kuyt must prove they can cope with the defensive free functioning Yuri Zhirkov and Alexander Anyukov.
The Russian players have less than three days to recover from the Sweden game and that could prove a key factor.
They have no major injury concerns and Arshavin should be fresh after playing only 90 minutes in the tournament.
His return from suspension was the catalyst in the transformation of Russia into a slick passing team that could have been modeled on the Dutch.
With the Dutchman Guus Hiddink in charge, which should not come too surprised.
The well-travelled coach has forged its reputation of the construction work hard parts where players perform above their capacity, but in this group of Russians, he acknowledges that he has the quality of some raw materials .

Luiz Felipe Scolari has kept its hands as the man most responsible for Portugal at Euro 2008 exit at the hands of Germany, then insisted on the date of announcement of his transfer to Chelsea was not been a factor.
Portugal have been dumped on the tournament with a 3-2 loss to Germany in an exciting quarter-finals on the new sod laid in Basel's St Jakob-Park, bringing a disappointing end to the Brazilian five years of occupation.
Scolari, who will become director of Chelsea on July 1, saw his side lose two of their games in Switzerland Stamford Bridge since his appointment was confirmed last week.
But 59 years denied claims news of his departure had affected his team.
"If I had not announced, we would have lost anyway," he said.
"We lost because we did not do things with sufficient quality.
"It has nothing to do with this or that. Some people will think and write, but it has nothing to do with it. "
Bastian Schweinsteiger scored one and set up two others - to Miroslav Klose and Michael Ballack - make Nuno Gomes effort to end the first half and replacement Helder Postiga towards full-time a little more than consolations.
Scolari did not seek to transfer responsibility for Portugal exit, however.
"I am responsible for choosing players and place them on the ground in some places, so that the person most responsible for Portugal are not in the past four Portugal is the coach, who chooses players and tactics, "he said.
"I am very sad because the Portuguese team could be in the last four. But in this game, a game point, we had some lapses in attention which means we could not get the result we wanted. "
Scolari was left to rue the fact Germany captain Ballack escaped with a push to the back of his Chelsea teammate Paulo Ferreira for what proved to be the decisive third goal.
"I do not know if it would have changed things (if the target had been rejected) - May we still lost 2-1," said South America.
"But when we are pressing the opponents and we concede a third goal, we have to start all over again and opponents are starting to grow in stature.
"I can not guarantee that would have changed the history of the game, but if it is a fault, it must be given".
