Fatih Terim side will not be playing for penalties

Turkey coach Fatih Terim insists his side will not play on Friday evening penalties against Croatia, despite being hit by injuries and suspensions.

Terim has 15 outfield players available for the clash in Vienna Ernst Happel Stadium, and first choice goalkeeper Volkan Demirel is suspended for the quarter-finals.

Despite his selection problems, Terim has refused to call a player and also stick to its attacking philosophy.

"I did not train for penalties in the last match and I have not talked about extra-time," he said.

"I hope we finish everything in 90 minutes or before that date. We are also ready for other options.

"We have no change in our philosophy.

"I've always said that I am confident in the team and not anyone. This has been my position from the outset and there are no excuses. "

Goalkeeper Volkan and midfielder Mehmet Aurelio are suspended, while Emre Gungor was excluded from the rest of the tournament.

Elsewhere, Servet Cetin will not make the game, Emre Asik is recovering from a head injury against Switzerland and Gokhan Zan is not yet meet the requirements following a knee injury.

Emre Belozoglu and Tumer Metin are also struggling with hamstring and groin problems respectively.

Terim, who had spells with Fiorentina and AC Milan, also had to manage the coverage of negative comments he made to the Italian press, suggesting that he would like to coach of Serie A again.

"This was not a special declaration," he said.

Despite the disruption this week, Terim hopes his side will continue with the momentum gained from two goals against the Czech Republic to win a place in the last eight.

He added: "There have been many incredible things that have occurred in this tournament and everything is possible".

The Turkey are Volkan appeal against the two match ban and find the result on Monday, with a case of successful release him for the semi-finals should they beat Croatia.
